Board of Education Members, district staff, students, City of Janesville and many other volunteers and sponsors will come together to give back to a community that has given so much to the district by participating in two main events
Delivering Bags of Hope
The School District of Janesville (SDJ) will hold the 5th Annual Community Food Supply Event,“Delivering Bags of Hope” on Saturday, December 14, 2013. SDJ social workers compile a list of families that will receive the donated items. The goal is to supply needy families with two weeks of groceries. Staff, students, community members and businesses donated $40,000 to the event this year. Local businesses assisted with the purchasing of food, the distribution site and materials to the drive.
The generosity of our staff and the community will allow us to distribute groceries to over 350 families and 50 senior citizens across Janesville. The School District of Janesville set a goal of raising $40,000 this year. We are happy to report that this goal was met. There is no way we could have achieved this without your help. THANK YOU!!!!!
Wilson Elementary School’s Holiday Event
The Wilson Holiday Event will be Thursday, December 19th. The doors will open at 3:00 p.m. for general activities such as the Holiday Shoppe, cookie and ornament decorating, and visits with Santa. Students from Wilson Elementary will be shopping during the day to purchase gifts for loved ones. At 4:00 p.m. the dinner will begin, and the kindergarten after-school club will be singing songs in the Holiday Shoppe. The event will end at 6:00 p.m. The meal was made possible through the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin. Tickets for the meals are $1.00. All other activities are free of charge. We have numerous Wilson staff, School District of Janesville employees, and High School students who will be volunteering their time to make the event a success. Members of the cabinet, Superintendent Schulte, and Board of Education members will also be on hand to assist with the serving of food.
The Wilson Holiday Event has been running for about 5 years.
