The Superintendent Chronicle: A Week in Review

To stay consistent with our focus on transparency, I believe that it is important to keep district staff and the community up-to-date on the decisions that are being made. I will be reporting each Monday, through this blog, on the important events that occurred the previous week in a series titled “The Superintendent Chronicle: A Week in Review”. This blog reviews what was a high priority for me the week before and explains the “why” behind important district decisions.

Handbook items that are being worked on through HR at this time are the school year calendar and review of the actuary report from Key Benefits.  There have been a number of ways the Human Resources Department has reached out to staff for input on the school calendar and there is still time to give input if interested.  We are also gathering information from Key Benefits on Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) issues.  The Feb 12, 2013 Board meeting will be the time the Board will solidify a plan for information sharing, discussion, and study of this topic.
I attended the Legislative Breakfast put on by the Rock Valley Education Professionals (RVEP) on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. at the Pontiac Convention Center.  State and federal legislators had been invited to speak and participate in an open question and answer session.  Congressman Ryan, Senator Cullen, Assembly representative Kolste and others spoke.  We had 5 board members in attendance.  I was the only superintendent that attended.
