What’s Right in the School District of Janesville

What’s Right in the School District of Janesville (SDJ) is a forum to recognize outstanding performances and achievements by SDJ employees, students and schools.
Janesville Parker Teachers utilizing “Flipped Classrooms”
In May, teachers from Waupun were at PHS to observe Flipped Instruction in math.  Teachers Eric Skrzypchak and Zak Dray have been teaching Geometry using the flipped model most of the school year.
Edison Summer Academy: A New Way to Learn
Edison Summer Academy offers approximately 45 students a chance to sharpen skills, be active, learn about their community, and interact with classmates as they learn in a new way.  Technology and engaging students are the two major themes of the Academy.  Students’ curriculum and learning experiences are designed to be a natural extension of Edison’s School Improvement Plan, with a different slant for the summer.  Many changes and improvements have been added to their programming.  Students were recommended by their classroom teachers and personal contacts were made with families of all students attending.
Jackson Elementary School Receives 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant
Jackson Elementary School received the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant that was applied for in March 2012.  $75,000 is awarded to Jackson to continue our Afterschool Program the Jackson Action Club for the 2012-13 school year.  Our Jackson Action Club Afterschool Program provides an extended school program focusing on reading, math and homework completion for approximately 60 students.
