What’s Right in the School District of Janesville

What’s Right in the School District of Janesville (SDJ) is a forum to recognize outstanding performances and achievements by SDJ employees, students and schools.
Roosevelt Elementary School Accepts Award on Behalf of the School District of Janesville
On April 12 – 14, 2012 Roosevelt Elementary School Principal Stacy Kelley and Chinese Teacher Xiaoyang (Jessica) Wang traveled to the National Chinese Language Conference in Washington, D.C. as part of the HanBan/Asia Society Confucius Classroom Network Grant.  Ms. Wang accepted a plaque from Hanban Director General Madame Xu Lin in appreciation of the quality program in Janesville. Janesville was one of 100 schools (only 4 in WI) in 27 states to be selected for this!
Van Buren Elementary School Students Travel to the “Rain Forest”
Kindergarten in Van Buren Elementary School Kristine Kroening’s class is a tropical rainforest of learning fun!  Students have been studying and researching about habitats and which animals live and can survive in each home.  Through smart board activities, books, computers and art projects, students have been adding animals to their rainforest habitat.  What a great way to engage students in learning!  Every student can share details down to the size and type of poisonous frogs that live within the vines.  Students are active, motivated learners.  Way to go Mrs. Kroening and Mrs. Hammon!
Wilson Elementary School Students to Enjoy Indian Trails
Wilson Elementary School collaborated with Boy Scouts of America District Director, Andrew Olsen, to scholarship 15 boys and 15 girls from Wilson Elementary to attend day camp at Indian Trails in Janesville the week of August 7th. This opportunity will allow students to enjoy swimming, crafts, marksmanship, wall climbing, scavenger hunts, and games while increasing their responsibility, interaction, and group dynamic skills. These students will also have the opportunity to consider and reflect on their place in life which will provide them with a positive sense of self-worth and usefulness meeting.  This meets The School District of Janesville’s commitment to students entering the world with a sense self and preparedness to be become a vital part of society!
