School District of Janesville
I appreciate the thoughtfulness put into the decision to delay preliminary layoff notices. The collaboration with the board, administration, and the JEA was quite evident on this matter. I do appreciate the board deferring to Dave Parr's expertise. It was also quite evident the smartest guy in the room yesterday was Dave. He was even able to take Julka's legalese and make it understandable for non-lawyers in the crowd. No one in the SDJ has more experience with labor issues than Dave Parr. Sadly, his expertise will go to waste if Governor Walker's Budget Repair/Union-busting bill strips the JEA of worthwhile influence on local education decisions. A recognition by the SDJ board/administration that this fiasco is created by the Governor's union-busting agenda would be a therapeutic.Off to Madison, thanks for reading.
Dear Steve,I agree that Dave articulated very well the concern over the contract. Our other expert in the room was Angel Tullar. She didn't jump in, but could have. Both Dave and Angel have dedicated many years to collective bargaining and I often turn to both of them for their expertise.
